14/9/22 By Michael Smith (@thelordreylus) Edited by Ashlea Blackett
When I started collecting for Assassin’s Creed in the holiday season of 2019, I found plenty of articles that provided a list of all of the Assassin’s Creed games and spin-off titles so I would understand an order to consume the series in. As I explored the series, I wanted to make sure I played, read, or watched everything that I could so that I had the most complete and immersive experience with the universe of the Assassins, Templars, and Isu.
However, I was unable to find a full spectrum of the transmedia and games outside of a few graphs or timelines that hadn’t been updated since Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in 2018. So, like any sane collector, I started working on my own list using databases such as Assassin’s Creed Wiki, Access the Animus, Ubisoft’s various sites, and whatever data I could find. After a few weeks of compiling, I had an organized and detailed list of the series that was broken up by the Genetic Memory time period that each piece of content would take place during.
With UbiForward and the showcase for Assassin’s Creed 15th Anniversary having occurred earlier today, I decided to revisit my checklist and reorganize and add new content that was announced today as well as items that I had not added since my last major review of my list.
In this article, I will break down the series in order of Century and give an understanding of how to make your way through the full AC universe, if you choose to play in Genetic Memory order as I have been since January 2020. Currently I am in the 16th Century, during the events of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, with a small handful of previous items to double back too once I wrap up Ezio’s storyline. A copy of the list will be available to download and help players keep track of what they have access to and what they have completed. The full detailed checklist provides information on the exact time period and which characters are focused on. This information would make this supporting article larger than needed, so the two should be used together.
Let’s take a Leap of Faith into this checklist!

Supplemental items such as the strategy guide, art book, and soundtrack will follow or run alongside the story of Kassandra the Eagle-bearer to add to the player’s enjoyment of the story, as well as the children’s book, Little Miss Kassandra which is a fun adaptation (non-canon) of her story. ● Assassin's Creed: Valhalla - The Last Chapter
The 9th Century covers the latest entries to the Assassin’s Creed universe with content for AC: Valhalla and 2023’s Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. A new format for Discovery Tour opens the century with stories of the vikings that first set off on expeditions to new lands. Blood Brothers and Echoes of Valhalla tell the tale of Ivarr the Boneless and his brother Ubba, setting the stage for lead character Eivor Varinsdottir later on. But before that, we see fan-favorite Basim take the stage in AC: Mirage and continues his work with The Hidden One in two books, The Golden City and The Silk Road.
From here Song of Glory provides a prequel to AC: Valhalla and the supplemental art book and seven soundtracks expand on the art of the game, both visually and musically. Little Miss Eivor retells the story in a child friendly way and then Aconyte Books continues their lines of side stories with Geirmund’s Saga and Sword of the White Horse. In December 2022, the French webcomic for AC: Valhalla will be expanded with The Converts which will be available in physical form.
DLC becomes the focus as Eivor travels to Ireland in Wrath of the Druids (soundtrack also available), takes on the Mastery Challenges and leads raids in Siege of Paris (soundtrack also available). During Eivor’s time in Ravensthorpe (the main hub town), she has access to visions of another life with the Isu God, Odin. In The comic Forgotten Myths (prequel to Dawn of Ragnarok), Odin’s son Baldr sets the stage for the aforementioned DLC in which his father sets off to mystical realms to save him. The soundtrack and Echoes of Ragnarok podcast provide a great environment and backstory to the Norse Mythology before The Forgotten Saga rogue-lite gamemode closes the story. The Last Chapter will have players say goodbye to Eivor as year two of AC: Valhalla ends by the end of 2022.

● Assassin's Creed: Last Descendants - Fate of the Gods
The 10th Century doesn’t have much at the moment. Just the third book of the Young Adult series, Last Descendants - Fate of the Gods. This book takes place during the Battle of Fýrisvellir (985 CE) and is another viking story.

The order shown above is the best way to learn about the Master Assassin, his family, and ideas for the Assassin’s Brotherhood.

● Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy - Roma: Chapter 1: Fiora Cavazza
The 15th Century begins with Assassin’s Creed: Heresy, a story about Joan of Arc. Afterwards, players can dive into the first portion of the Ezio Collection by reading about his Uncle Mario in Project Legacy, his father in Lineage and then Ezio himself in either Assassin’s Creed II or the novelization Assassin’s Creed: Renaissance. The supplemental media is included as normal for a mainline title, plus an episode of Echoes of History and the last of the Mister/Misses series with Little Ezio. The 15th Century is also the period that contains the first of many games and websites that have been shut down with Assassin’s Creed: Recollection (though the mission text can still be read at the link provided in the checklist document). This century is also the first of multiple character entries from the Assassin’s Creed Movie novel, with a section about Emir and his ancestor Yusuf Tazim. Followed by the first DLC for Assassin’s Creed II: Battle of Forli.
The Assassin’s Creed Movie takes place alongside Assassin’s Creed II: Discovery and has some conflicting data points within. Supplemental content is grouped with the movie as with the games and a VR Experience is packaged in as well, the video is available on YouTube. For those looking for a long term mobile title, Assassin’s Creed Rebellion adapts the story from the movie in a non-canon release that has weekly events to collect your favorite Assassin’s Creed characters and have them traverse the many time periods of the AC universe. This is followed with the second DLC for Assassin’s Creed II: Bonfire of the Vanities. Lastly, the 15th Century wraps up with more chapters from Project Legacy.

● Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy - Devine Science: Chapter 1: Maria Amiel
● Assassin's Creed Volume 2: Setting Sun
● Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy - Devine Science: Chapter 3: Elizabeth Jane Weston
Ezio’s story continues into Assassin’s Creed: Ascendance (short film) and chapters from Project Legacy, bridging the gap to Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (plus supplementals) and the now-shutdown Assassin’s Creed: Identity (story missions are still available to read online). The first DLC for AC: Brotherhood - The Da Vinci Disappearance comes next and then the tabletop board game Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood of Venice and its first two expansions; Roma and Creed vs Crows (multiplayer mode). Project Legacy returns once more with two more chapters and then Ezio is off to Constantinople for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.
In addition to the normal strategy guide and soundtrack, AC: Revelations also has a board game that takes place in the same time period and setting with Assassin’s Creed: Arena where players control Templar agents. More single serving content follows with comics, book sections, and Project Legacy chapters that take place in this century and transitions from Ezio to Shao Jun in Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China after AC: Embers and the non-canon AC: Cinders (a fan contest runner up in a Weekly Shonen colab with Ubisoft).
Assassin’s Creed: China is unique as the game itself is canon, but both the manga and novel adaptations are considered non-canon stories using the familiar character Shao-Jun as part of the Assassin’s Creed Stories transmedia line. These are great examples of Ubisoft wanting to allow artists and writers to explore the AC universe without worrying about the canonical story. However, there is always a chance they could be made canon in the future. The 16th Century wraps up with more comics and Project Legacy chapters.
17th Century CE
● Assassin's Creed: Fragments - Les Sorcières des Landes
● Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe (Unconfirmed time period)

Witches are the theme of the 17th Century. A young adult novel (Assassin’s Creed: Fragments), Comic (Trial by Fire), and Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe all take place during various witch hunts/trials in the US and Europe. More information on Hexe will come in the future, but trailer analysis by Access the Animus have identified this time period as a very likely setting for the game. Outside of the witch themed content, Assassin’s Creed: Gold is an audiobook that visits The Great Recoinage in Great Britain and is voiced by a star studded cast.

The 18th Century contains the largest amount of content with transmedia and supplements from five games/spin-offs including the entire Kenway Saga, Rogue, Liberation, and Unity. While Ezio had the most titles with himself as the lead, the 18th Century is a continuous continuation of game after game where characters cross paths and expand the Assassin’s Creed universe over 80 years. It is also a starting point for many items that branch off, telling stories for individual supporting cast members such as Duncan Walpole, Moussa, and Haytham Kenway. It is also the only century that has an alternative story with the DLC The Tyranny of King Washington for Assassin’s Creed III.

The 19th Century slows down with a focus on Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate and its DLC. Prior to this title are tales in Tripoli with Templars Vol. 2 and across Europe in The Engine of History Trilogy (still in development). Last Descendants returns for the final two (technically the first two) releases from their series, as well as another YA novel with AC: Fragments - The Blade of Aizu. The story of Nikolai Orelov, of Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia opens with The Fall and will continue as the years turn over to the 20th Century.

The 20th Century ends the Genetic Memory gameplay that has been released thus far. Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia continues as the last of the video games (as of 2022) to be released. From here, the comics take over as the drive that progresses the story of Assassin’s Creed. A few website collections of data begin detailing Abstergo Industries and how the Modern Day will become the focus come the 2000s.

Between the website, Project Legacy, the files from the multiplayer of AC III & IV, and the Abstergo Entertainment - New Employee Handbook, the player can learn everything they need to about the series’ long standing antagonists. It is also here that we see the ending of the transmedia that has a single time period as from here on, reference books and databases are all that remain in the huge line of content for the series. The timeline will end with the final expansion of the Brotherhood of Venice tabletop game with Tokyo XXI.

● Assassin's Creed Mobile Game
This completes the current checklist for the Extended Universe of Assassin’s Creed. All that remains are the currently announced, but still in production titles that have little to no information, or are listed under internal codenames. As more information is made available to the public, we here at The Ones Who Came Before will provide an update to this list for you to refer back to in the future. While the list is already massive, with 275 pieces of media to consume, it is my personal hope that it continues to grow as the largest playground for history.
